for pianoduration: 4'00"
published by: Composers Edition
This short miniature for piano was composed in 1988. A performance was given by Jeremy FIlsell soon afterwards – and has migrated upwards in pitch by about a quarter-tone thanks to the motor speed of the cassette recorder from which it was originally transferred to disc. The piece lay forgotten until January 2019, when rediscovery of the manuscript led to its being published by Composers Edition. The music is headed by an extract from a poem by the 15th-century Italian poet Matteo Boiardo, which describes a girl picking flowers on a spring morning and outshining them all with her own beauty.
Here is Jeremy Filsell’s 1988 performance. The recording quality is poor, but the performance itself not!
