A Room at the End of the Mind
Piano music by Francis Pott
Jeremy FilsellJeremy Filsell’s recital takes its collective title from that of Francis Pott’s second set of twelve short pieces, A Room at the End of the Mind (a phrase borrowed with permission from an early poem by John Burnside). Alongside these are three pieces from Gallimaufry (the third set of twelve pieces) and two virtuoso works dating from the early 1980s: The Song of Amergin (a pantheistic sea piece taking its title from a poem examined in The White Goddess, Robert Graves’s study of ancient poetic myth), and the shadowy, mercurial Scherzo-Notturno, written originally in 1981 but subject to minor revisions in 2014. All the music on this disc is published by Composers Edition, with the exception of The Song of Amergin – which will be issued by the same publisher in due course.
